Another Class

I graduated last August with my Master's Degree in Instructional Technology (designing instruction/training, with a technology focus), but I only needed one more class to get an e-learning graduate certificate. So I checked the class schedule and found a 2-credit course called "Podcasting" and it was only 2 weeks long (Tues, Thurs, and Sat for four hours each day).

Tonight was my first class. I didn't even know what podcasting was until I got there and asked some questions. I kind of assumed it was just downloading video/audio to an iPod, but I was surprised to learn that there is much more to it than that. From what I understand, "podcasting" is a term that is used very loosely these days, but it is actually like getting a subscription to hear/see something that is digitally recorded more than once (National Geographic has podcasts). You still currently have to upload it to your MP3 PLayer if you want to, but you get it automatically (after you've subscribed). The "pod" part of it isn't as important as it seems, you can actually podcast to your desktop or to any MP3 Player, not just an IPod.

I'm not sure I'll have an immediate use for podcasting in my job, but at least I know what people are talking about when they say "podcasting." If my project turns out to be something good, perhaps I can show it to you all at a later date through this site...but for now, I've only chosen my topic: Creative Woman! I'll let you think on that one for a bit!

If you have a decent MP3 Player, and are curious but as oblivious to technology as I am...this site may help you understand the basics of it too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcasting Also check out other sites like http://www.dotnetrocks.com/ and National Geographic to subscribe to some podcasts.

Happy "casting"!

~Erin
